Stories hinted that the Scot had grown tired of the behind-the-scenes shenanigans at St Mary's, but Burley has angrily denied the claims.

"The story is complete nonsense. I am very happy at the club," he insisted.

"I am very surprised and upset by the article because my family and I are very settled at Southampton.

"I am very pleased with how the squad is progressing for the new campaign and very optimistic we can improve on last season when we missed out on the play-off final only on penalties.

"I am fully focused on the game at Watford a week on Sunday and looking forward to a good push for promotion."
