Stockport sack manager Gannon

Gannon, 40, took charge at Edgeley Park in December 2005, guiding the club to promotion from League Two via the play-offs at the end of the 2007-08 campaign.

In February he seemed to be on the verge of joining Brighton but, after holding talks with the Seagulls, opted to remain with County.

"It is regrettable that due to funding constraints during the administration period it has been necessary to make a number of redundancies," read a statement from the club's administrators, who were called in last week due to ongoing financial problems at Edgeley Park.

"Following the conclusion of the playing season, the number of coaching staff has been reduced and regrettably cuts include the manager, Jim Gannon.

"It is hoped that these cost reductions will enable us to preserve the club in the short term and secure a buyer in the near future."
