The Hornets claimed top spot following Wednesday's 2-1 victory at Cardiff City, but Boothroyd believes there is much more to come from his pre-season promotion favourites.

Darius Henderson made it four goals in two games with one in each half for the visitors at Ninian Park.

"We rode our luck and weathered some storms, defended well and ground out a result without playing that well," he admitted.

"It says a lot that goalkeeper Mart Poom was our man of the match with some great saves.

"Darius Henderson is on fire and scoring goals, and I've never been in the position before to be able to leave players such as Marlon King and Jobi McAnuff on the bench before.

"We know we have plenty of work to do but I don't think we will be at our best until January."
