The Yorkshire club had failed with three bids for Wycombe forward Nathan Tyson, forcing them to look elsewhere for fresh options up front.
But Hillsborough chief executive Kaven Walker said: "There is no truth in these reports.
"We have made no bid for Lee, nor have we enquired about him."
