Ipoua, who joined the Gills from United for just £25K, is behind Mamady Sidibe, Marlon King, Rod Wallace and Tommy Johnson in the battle for a place up front.

He has featured 36 times for Gillingham this season, but the 27-year-old Cameroonian will be playing his trade elsewhere in the summer.

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler said: "We've got a lot of strikers and something had to give, so my decision was for football and also for financial reasons.

"We had to make cuts if I'm going to be able to bring in a player or two in the summer.

"Guy has been fantastic for this football club but I have to look long-term. He understands our reasons and he's fine by it."
