Kell broke his leg while playing for United in April, but was still able to complete a move to Oakwell on a Bosman transfer.

His recovery has gone smoothly, and he has now entered the final stage of rehabilitation.

Tykes physio Rick Holden said: "The fracture has healed really well.

"He has been given the green light to move into the final stage of his rehab and there is nothing stopping him now."

"Richard is coming on well. He is still getting a little discomfort but he has had to learn the biomechanics of running again after so long out.

"He is doing as well as we could have expected at this stage after such a traumatic injury, he'll be able to start some football work and some small sided games in the near future"
