Lennon expects Hooper to stay at Celtic

The 24-year-old forward has been a big hit since joining the Scottish Premier League side from Scunthorpe in July 2010, for a fee reported as being worth up to £2.4million but which the Iron do not list as being their record sale (the £2million received for Billy Sharp is).

Liverpool have reportedly expressed an interest in the player, but Lennon expected the forward to prolong his stay at Parkhead along with goalkeeper Fraser Forster - who recently penned a new deal, and was included in the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland

"It is speculation. It wouldn't surprise me if there are a number of clubs in for Gary because of the way he is, but I would poo-poo that (Liverpool link)," said Lennon.

"We are still in negotiations at the minute and I don't think we are too far away. There will be interest in them, but they are not going anywhere.

"Fraser has signed a new contract and hopefully we are close to getting Gary's signature. If there are offers coming in, they will have to pay what we feel the valuation is."

Hooper had previously been linked with a move to Southampton, where he would link up with former Iron manager Nigel Adkins.
