The 32-old is the first coaching appointment of new Vics boss Neil Redfearn at the Blue Square Premier club.
Sharp moves south from Scottish side Hamilton Academicals.
"I've been keen to get someone to fill that role since day one," said Redfearn.
"I want someone who, once the lads have crossed the line onto the pitch, can get my ideas across during the game."
