Barnsley boss Gudjon Thordarson saw his side miss out on a place in the fourth round and fumed: "It was our own fault." The second division high flyers missed out after they failed to break down Brian Laws' stubborn third division outfit and the pair now replay on Tuesday week.

Afterwards the Tykes boss said: "We had the majority of possession and created chances that I felt that we should have taken.

"But goals win games and it was our own fault that we are not in the next round already.

"We are struggling in front of goal and that's been the story of our season.

"But at least we are in the draw. We are confident we can win the replay." In contrast Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws was happy with the chance of taking the Yorkshire side back to Glanford Park for the replay.

"We are delighted to be in the draw for the next round - who knows what will come out?" said Laws.

"From a financial point of view it is a great result for us and it will already help us to strengthen.

"If we get a big name in the draw it is an incentive for both teams. Today wasn't a spectacle but we did our job.

"It's nice to take them to our place, it's a small pitch and it doesn't suit a lot of teams." Barnsley had the best chances and might have grabbed a first-half winner but for a hat-trick of saves from keeper Tom Evans.

And when Evans was beaten late on Scunthorpe had the woodwork to thank for keeping out an Alex Neil free kick.

Barnsley went close after just two minutes when Craig Ireland's header was well saved by Evans and then Jonathan Walters dragged a shot from 12 yards wide of the target.

Before half time Evans turned an angled shot by Kevin Betsy round the post and then topped it with another superb save to deny Walters after he burst through into the area.
