Blackpool put behind the acrimonious departure of manager Colin Hendry as they produced their best home performance of the season.

Under the guidance of caretaker boss Simon Grayson they came from behind after Scunthorpe's Billy Sharp had scored his 13th of the season when he cut through a static home defence in the second minute.

If Grayson needed to establish his credentials for the Blackpool job his players surely gave him the lift he needed.

They picked themselves off the floor and in the 17th minute a lovely attack involving Simon Wiles and Danny Warrender allowed John Murphy a chance and his shot may not have had much power but it trickled in off the post.

Two minutes later promotion hunting United were reduced to ten men when defender Andrew Crosby upended Tommy Wright as the striker closed in on goal.

In the 31st minute increased Seasiders pressure saw Warrender produce a magnificent 30-yard volley which Paul Musselwhite turned to safety.

Just three minutes later United went ahead again when home keeper Les Pogliacomi was adjudged to have pushed an Iron player at a corner and Sharp converted the spot-kick.

Blackpool were undaunted and in what was a hurly-burly clash drew level again in the 42nd minute when Wiles turned the United defence inside out and his inch-perfect cross was headed home by Ian Morris at the far post.

Just before the break the influential John Doolan found Wright unmarked at the back of the box and the striker scored from the narrowest of angles.

In the second half Blackpool went further ahead courtesy of substitute Rory Prendergast's first touch of the game when his deft chip into the box was fired home by the onrushing Murphy.

The Seasiders made it five in the 90th minute when Morris went on a 30-yard run. He checked just inside the penalty area and a guided a lovely drive into the top corner.
