Bournemouth kept up the pressure for an automatic promotion spot with an excellent victory over play-off hopefuls Scunthorpe.

James Taylor gave the Cherries the lead four minutes after the break before Danny Thomas made sure of the points on 77 minutes.

Bournemouth enjoyed the first real chance of the match, Steve Fletcher flashing a header across the face of goal following slack defending in the home defence.

Scunthorpe began to assert themselves and Neil Young was forced to turn the ball over his own bar following a strong run by Paul Hayes; while a header from Greg Strong was pushed away by Moss.

However the Cherries continued to threaten and a shot from James Hayter cannoned of Nathan Stanton's legs to safety, before Warren Cummings tried his luck with a left foot shot that flew over the bar just before the break.

Scunthorpe started the second half brightly, Moss turning over Robert Taylor's right-foot shot drive.

Andrew Dawson then made a strong break through the middle, firing in a left foot shot which forced Moss into another smart save.

However the visitors broke the deadlock when Fletcher headed Cummings centre back into the danger zone for Hayter to glance home from close range.

Bournemouth strengthened their grip with 13 minutes remaining Danny Thomas racing through a static defence to drive home a shot which beat Evans at his left hand post.

Scunthorpe's woes were further enhanced in injury time when skipper Peter Beagrie was given his marching orders for a second yellow card.

The victory saw the Cherries end a lengthy 11-match away run without a win.
