It was the first time they had beaten Rovers in ten attempts in front of their own fans at Glanford Park.

In a luke-warm opening 45 minutes, there were few chances with two well drilled defences comfortably in charge.

Doncaster's best effort was a long-range free-kick from Brian Stock which was dealt with comfortable by goalkeeper Joe Murphy.

Towards half-time when Scunthorpe finally began to work up a head of steam.

Centre-back Steve Foster might have opened the scoring when he headed just wide of the far post from an in-swinging corner by Dave Mulligan.

Winger Cleveland Taylor also had a good opportunity just before the interval when a cross from Marcus Williams picked him out unmarked at the far post, but his well struck shot was blocked away by goalkeeper Jan Budtz.

Scunthorpe maintained their momentum at the start of the second half as Rovers began to come under growing pressure.

United took the lead in the 54th minute when a ball into the box by Mulligan was touched by Keogh into the path of Sharp, who drilled a right-footed shot low into the far corner of the net for his eighth goal of the season.

Five minutes later Keogh was the provider again when he released Taylor into the box to fire in a shot that was blocked by Budtz.

Keogh then got on to the scoresheet himself in the 68th minute, receiving a ball from Matt Sparrow and working himself an opening in the box to rifle in a right-footed shot that gave Budtz no chance.

Only poor control by Keogh in-front of goal denied Scunthorpe a third goal against a Doncaster defence in disarray.
