We are all Scunthorpe United

I am a very privileged person to have spent the best eight years of my life playing football in Scunthorpe. My wife Leire and I are very thankful to everybody in Scunthorpe for being so supportive to us.

Many people know that Scunthorpe United have been very kind to allow a football match for my benefit to be played at Glanford Park on 3 May. I hope that all of the fans are looking forward to seeing their Wembley heroes play against some great footballers.

For me the most important thing now is Scunthorpe United and the future. I thought that this would be a great season for the club and I hoped to play my part on the pitch for promotion. As you all know I have been sidelined for several months due to an ankle injury and unable to help the club to achieve their goals.

However, I believe that from my position I can still do my bit and help the club if this only means by calling for unity. The necessary union that will save the club from relegation. Let's all be united for the next four weeks.

Now we need the support of everybody in Scunthorpe and I would be very happy if everybody was united in support of the team. This is why I have asked for my benefit match to be called the Alex Calvo Garcia Unity Match. I hope that all of the people of Scunthorpe will be looking forward to that match and will be talking about all of the great players who will be there.

When they do those things I would like them to first of all think about their team now and remember how important it must be that we are all Scunthorpe United.
