ACG documentary premiere at GP

Last updated : 06 September 2012 By Luke Thornhill

The midfielder will be at Glanford Park on Saturday September 22 - when the Iron take on Colchester - for the first public viewing of an English-subtitled version of a Spanish documentary on him, focusing on the 1999 Division Three play-off final in which he scored the winning goal.

The 30 minute documentary will be shown in the Sir Ian Botham Executive Lounge at Glanford Park, followed by a question and answer session with fans and a memorabilia auction. The event is being organised by the Iron Trust as the final stage of their launch process.

"I keep the club, the people running it and supporters deeply in my heart. Since my first day at the club everyone was 100 per cent supportive." said Calvo-Garcia.

"I think each one involved with the club understood the difficulty of moving abroad without speaking the language. There was no family around either, so little details took greater significance. Even a simple hello and a smile takes a different dimension.

"When you are on your own you look around for what you miss more. Maybe the support of your family and friends. In that situation the people around and your friends take a different and more important role that they think. They somehow become your family. I am sure that I would not have found that feeling in many other clubs. Scunthorpe United offered me the opportunity to live a wonderful experience and I will always be grateful for it."

Calvo-Garcia was back at Glanford Park in July, when he took part in Cliff Byrne's benefit match – scoring in his first outing in an Iron shirt since leaving in 2004.

He proved popular with supporters – including many too young to remember his 1999 goal – and he considers himself now an Iron fan.

"Let's hope the team turns around the current situation and with their effort and our support we start building again the recent successful years. Believe me that what you do in the stands has an effect on the pitch," he added.

Tickets for the evening with Alex Calvo-Garcia are free to members of the Iron Trust, membership costs £10 for adults, £20 for families (2x adults and unlimited U16s) and £3 for U16s. Tickets for non-members are £15. The event starts at 7.30pm

They are available via the main ticket office at Glanford Park from Friday September 7, where you can also join the Trust. You can also collect or purchase tickets from Iron Trust representatives at the corner of the Clugston / Britcon Stands prior to Saturday's League One game with Sheffield United.
