Nigel Adkins has revealed that he is close to bringing in a goalscorer, but has warned fans to be patient as he tries to strengthen his squad.

The United boss is looking to bring in a defender, midfielder and striker to plug the gaps that the departures of Andy Butler, Jim Goodwin and Martin Paterson have left in the squad.

But Adkins refuses to rush bringing players into the club, despite being close to capturing a striker.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I can understand people are frustrated and that they want to see signings".

"It's not just us, there's a lot of negotiating goes on at this time of year and sometimes you need a chain reaction before something else can happen.

"I'm very close to bringing in a goalscorer and it's someone who no-one has mentioned in the media, which I'm pleased about."
