Adkins: Murphy won it for us

Murphy pulled off some fantastic saves in both halves to frustrate the visitors, and Adkins was quick to heap praise on the Republic of Ireland international.

The win was the Iron's fifth on the trot, putting the two defeats that opened the season firmly behind them.

"Credit to Joe Murphy, he pulled off some fantastic saves to make us go in 0-0 at half-time," he said..

"That's five on the spin we've won now, so we're pleased with that. It was an entertaining game for the supporters and we've just beaten a very good Carlisle United side."

The Carlisle boss John Ward felt that the Cumbrians had performed well but failed to make to make the most of the chances they created.

"We haven't been clinical enough and their goalkeeper has been outstanding," he said.

"I don't enjoy it because we've lost, but I've been around long enough to know that wasn't a bad performance.

"There are more good things than bad to talk to the players about. Being able to bounce back from this is not in question.

"If we can play like that in most of our games, we'll have a really good chance of winning."
