The Baggies head north to Glanford Park boasting an expensively-assembled squad, with former England striker Kevin Phillips leading the line for the visitors.
"What a massive game this is. On paper, though we play on grass not on paper. They play a fantastic system and it's a great challenge for us on how we can stop them," said Adkins.
"They are a very, very good side. And obviously they have very good players in the team, a good manager, a good system the way they play - hard to play against and it's a great challenge for us."
United have no new injury concerns, with Adkins expected to name an unchanged side from Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Preston North End.
Left-back Marcus Williams is back in contention following an ankle injury, but is expected to have to settle for a place on the bench.
