The current backroom staff was put in place on a caretaker basis last year following Brian Laws' departure to Sheffield Wednesday.

With Nigel Adkins promoted to manager, senior players Andy Crosby and Ian Baraclough stepped up to act as joint assistant managers - while continuing with their playing roles.

And it has been confirmed that the pair will stay in their roles for next season, charged with the task of leeping United in the Championship.

"As players they have been an inspiration on the field of play and they have also been pillars of support in assisting me," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"We get on well together, which is important, and they are not 'yes' men. I don't want people who would say 'yes Nige, yes Nige' all the time.

"We speak honestly and frankly with each other, but ultimately it is me who will make the final decision."

Crosby and Baraclough will remain registered as players next season, though their playing roles are likely to be limited.
