Beags: Concentrate on the League

United enter the festive period sitting seven points clear at the top of the League Two table, having won their last eight games in all competitions, but Beagrie knows it could easily come down with the Christmas decorations.

A trip to Chester - who have already beaten the Iron at Glanford Park this season - on Boxing Day kicks off a run of four games in quick succession that could have a massive bearing on the final League table.

After the game against Ian Rush's men this weekend, United face Notts County, Darlington and Mansfield before the trip to Stamford Bridge on January 8.

"We've tried to put the Chelsea game on the back-burner as much as we can,'' 39-year-old Beagrie told the Press Association.

"Even though it's a huge game for us, financially more than anything, the Christmas period can be a pivotal time - four games in close proximity and 12 points up for grabs.

"I'm sure the Cup won't be a distraction because we have such competition for places here now, if anyone slackens they know they'll be replaced and they might not play at Stamford Bridge.

"Everyone wants to be involved in that one and everyone is looking over their shoulders, so there'll be no let-up in the league."
