Rowing, who joined the club as a secretary in 1981 has been sacked following the return to the club of Steve Wharton and Brian Laws according to reports.

He will been replaced by Mark Blackbourne, who was Director of Football Communications at Sunderland until last summer.

Following the Black Cats' relegation out of the Premier League Blackbourne was one of 70 administrative staff made redundant.

Speaking to the Scunthorpe Telegraph Rowing insisted he had not resigned.

He said: "I am somewhat stunned at what has happened.

"It is disappointing to learn that someone else has already been named to take my place."

It has also emerged that the £250,000 sponsorship deal announced at the weekend with local menswear shop Dee Jays has collapsed.

Former director Des Comerford, who owns the town centre store, had personally guaranteed the deal.

But now he has withdrawn the offer, which would have run for six years after the club's current contract with H & L Garages expires.

Comerford has said that he felt it was not in his company's interests to be involved with the club following the boardroom upheaval.

The club have also been hit by the loss of one of their new associate directors.

Graham Bean, former FA compliance officer and chairman of the Football Supporters Association, has decided not to accept the offer to join the board.

He has not ruled out returning if he was asked to become involved again.
