The club are just six points above the relegation zone to the Nationwide Conference and have lost the last four matches, with Tuesday night's 3-2 home defeat at the hands of bottom club Carlisle United seeing fans calling for his head.

Iron fans have been clearly unhappy with the recent form, with more than 80 per cent of voters in our recent poll describing the season as a failure.

Assistant manager Russ Wilcox will take control of the team for Saturday's visit of Leyton Orient, he will be assisted by Youth Team manager Paul Wilson and physio Nigel Adkins - both of whom are UEFA `A` Coaches with previous management experience.

A statement released by the board this morning read: "Following a meeting between the directors and Brian Laws it has been mutually agreed that it is appropriate that his time at Scunthorpe United Football Club has come to an end.

"The directors would like to place on record their thanks for his work on behalf of the club over the past seven years and wish him every success for the future."
