Iron manager Brian Laws says the players deserve the praise after he was named League Two manager of the month for August.

He won the award after an unbeaten start to the season, which sees United top of the table.

But Laws is refusing to get carried away with the early success.

He said: "I'm delighted to receive the award but I would much rather have the one at the end of the season.

"Praise must go to the players for all their hard work and determination to ensure we weren't beaten in August."

Wigan manager Paul Jewell won the award for The Championship, with Luton boss Mike Newell the League One winner.

Chris Kamara, part of the awarding panel, said: "Brian has been up and down with Scunthorpe.

"This time he's going to be better prepared for the hard run in to the League Two title.

"And when you look at the chasing pack - Atkins, Adams, Barrow, Horton - it's going to be a helluva scrap."
