Burnley ask after Paterson

United have rejected claims the Clarets have lodged a £400,000 bid for the Northern Ireland international, as reported in the News Of The World on Sunday.

But the Lancashire side have been in touch with the Iron chairman Steve Wharton, and a bid is likely.

Paterson has scored 14 goals for the Iron this season after his summer move from Stoke City.

In January an approach from Norwich City was rejected, and a percentage of any future transfer fee will have to be paid to his former club.
