Club physio Nigel Adkins told the official SUFC site: "This is an ideal time to undertake the procedure, as he is ruled out for the season.
"This week he will be able to take off his knee brace and slowly start to increase the range of movement at the joint."
Left-back Lee Ridley has also stepped up his return from a knee injury.
He had an operation six weeks ago and has increased his cardiovascular work, but is still a month away from any jogging work.
