Butler served with pay rise

He has formed a formidable partnership with Andy Crosby at the heart of United's defence.

The new deal does not extend his contract, as he had already signed a four-year deal last year. He remains tied to the club until 2008.

It does however increase his pay packet, amid reported interest in his services over the summer - with Queens Park Rangers the only club to make a formal approach.

Iron boss Brian Laws said: "We offered Andy an improved deal to reward him for his performances last season.

"Hopefully Andy can continue to develop, and become a great player."
