The purpose of 'Can the Commercials' is to enable fans up and down the country to join together and put direct and instant pressure on Carlton and Granada by targeting their main source of income and thereby putting pressure on their share price.

The idea is simple: Pledge not to watch ITV during the breaks - Just change channel!

The campaign is supported by David Burns (Chief Executive of the football league) along with Gordon Taylor (Chief executive of the PFA), John Barnwell (Chief Executive of the league managers association) and all 72 football league clubs.

'Can the Commercials' was extremely successful during last months world cup. The campaign helped slash ITV's viewing figures when going head to head with the BBC.

ITV usually get 40% of the viewing figures when going head to head with the BBC, these were the figures:
England v Denmark: BBC 12.4m (80%) ITV 3.2 m (20%)
Ireland v Spain: BBC 7.7m (71%) ITV 3.1m (29%)
England v Brazil: BBC 12.4m (78%) ITV 3.6m (22%)
Brazil v Germany: BBC 7.9m (81%) ITV 1.9m (19%)
