Steve Wharton had insisted he would resign this summer if the club failed to achieve promotion, but was coacxed to stay on and guide the club through the summer in light of the loss of TV revenue.

The board have now asked him to stay on longer, for the next season.

"My colleagues on the Board have asked me to stay on as Chairman beyond the few months I had originally agreed and in the present difficulties I am happy to do whatever is in the best interests of the Club," confirmed Wharton in a clu statement issued this afternoon.

"The AGM, which hopefully will be November or December at the latest, might be a good time to review the situation.

"It is our intention to bring our accounting year end forward to the 30th of June which coincides with the renewal dates for players contracts and is a clear break between seasons. It will also help us achieve the AGM well before Christmas."

Wharton also spoke about the current share issue, and he feels that the uptake in new shares is encouraging - and that the money is much needed in light of the current financial climate all professional football club's are operating under.

"I think we have been fortunate with the timing of our Rights Issue. With the anticipated loss of ITV Digital money, it gives us some breathing space in which to prepare ourselves for a new more difficult financial environment," he said.
