A second half Clayton McDonald header infront of a packed away end clinched it for the visitors after Terry Hawkridge's deflected cross had cancelled out a John-Lewis opener.

“I’m delighted for the players, but delighted for the fans as well. They were fantastic”, Hurst said after the game.

“They’ve shown over both games what it means to them and how they can help get behind the team.

“There’s been a lot of talk about how things haven’t gone for Grimsby Town in recent years. This was one they could enjoy.

Hurst beleived that his side dealt with the majority of long balls that were aimed into his sides box.

“Scunthorpe pressed and one or two balls flashed across the box after we’d gone back in front, but on the whole I thought it was balls in from deeper we had to try to contend with.

“I thought Scunthorpe had large spells though without really hurting us. There were a lot of longer balls into the box that we had to try to defend and we did for the majority."
