Dawson deal uncertainty

Reports yesterday claimed the Tigers had agreed a deal with the player, but he has travelled with the United squad for an end of season weekend break.

Hull chairman Adam Pearson has admitted that he is `definitely interested` in Dawson, but no-one at the North Bank club is prepared to comment on the possible move.

Laws said: “I know absolutely nothing about it. I have a lot of respect for Andy Dawson and he has a lot of respect for me and the first port of call if he ever moves will be to my door.

“There has been no suggestion, the dust has not yet settled on or season and it is pure speculation at this moment in time.

“Hull City are always going to be linked with good players because they have the funds to do it and Andy is a good player. But as far as I’m concerned there has been no contact and I will be speaking to Andy Dawson in the next 24 hours.”

A spokesperson for Hull City today claimed that they would not sign any more players until July 1, as that is when contracts of players leaving the club run out.

Dawson’s future at the club remains uncertain, but Laws is hoping to bring Ireland U21 international Cliff Byrne back to United.

Byrne spent a successful three months on loan at Glanford Park and became a fan favourite, but wanted to try his luck back at Sunderland before committing to a move to North Lincolnshire.

But he has now been told his contract at the Stadium of Light will not be renewed, meaning that he is free to join United on a free transfer.

Laws said: “Of course we would like him to be on board next season, but it’s still early days yet.”
