Forte on wrong end of heavy defeat

It seemed everything he touched turned to gold last week, as he scored a hat-trick in County's 4-0 win over League Two rivals Barnet.

But although he scored in his second outing for the side on Saturday, it was a rare succesful moment in his side's 6-1 humbling at Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Magpies were three goals behind by half-time and fared little better after the restart, with the County boss Ian McParland embarrassed by such a poor performance.

"It was one of the most embarrassing performances I have been involved in during my whole time in football and I include playing, coaching and managing in that," he said.

"I won't accept that at all. I protect my players and I know we will have good days and bad days, but today is something I cannot defend.

"The lads were prepared and I told them what to expect from Dagenham, who play with a lot of spirit and energy.

"They are an effective team and we didn't start brightly and I could see the early goal coming and we never recovered."

Forte had a strike disallowed in the first-half which, had it stood, would have levelled the game at 1-1.

Although McParland thought the goal should have stood, he knew his side got what they deserved from the game.

"It was a terrible decision to rule out Forte's goal, but that was not the reason we lost the game," he said.

"Maybe the goal would have got our tails up, but who knows. It has nothing to do with the referee why we lost."
