The Irish midfielder has agreed to stay at Glanford Park, having been courted by a host of other clubs.

Darlington had tried to tempt him with a large pay packet - as they did to lure Steve Foster from the Iron - while Bournemouth boss Kevin Bond has revealed he was chasing the 25-year-old.

And the former Portsmouth and Newcastle assistant revealed he held lengthy talks with Goodwin over a move to Dean Court.

"I met him and liked him and I would like to have brought him here because he knows this level very well, he's been successful at this level and is a very good professional," Bond told the Daily Echo.

"He also had a couple of lucrative offers from top-flight clubs in Greece and Belgium, while a number of other clubs in the UK were also interested.

"He fitted all the criteria for us but Scunthorpe made him an improved offer and ultimately the lure of playing in the Championship was an obstacle that I could not get over, otherwise he may have joined us."
