Beagrie, 40, currently has a back problem and will be out for at least two more weeks.

Laws has had to rely on Matt Sparrow to play out of position on the left wing despite the return of the experienced Wayne Corden, after his loan spell at League Two side Chester City ended.

Laws is also targeting a striker in the absence of the injured Billy Sharp.

Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "The chairman has given me permission to bring these players in.

"We can't afford to wait for Beags, and though Corden is back he has not quite grasped his opportunities and I don't think he's in the right frame of mind to be the answer."
