Scunthorpe hope Shane Duffy will not miss any first-team games for the club, despite Everton recalling him from his loan spell at Glanford Park.
David Moyes, the Everton boss, recalled Duffy on Thursday ahead of the FA Cup third round tie against Tamworth.
First-choice defender Phil Jagielka is one of three first-choice players who suffered njuries in Wednesday night's 2-1 loss to Bolton, meaning Duffy is in contention to make his senior debut in domestic competition for the Toffees.
The Irish youngster, writing on Twitter, said: Just like to thank everyone for there support and never know... I could be back in weeks."
Scunthorpe stressed that they hope Duffy's loan can be renewed until the end of the season.
In a statement, they said: "The Iron are still hoping to renew his stay though, with our next match away at Colchester a week on Saturday."
