Iron manager Nigel Adkins is reportedly tracking a central midfielder and attended an LA Galaxy fixture while on a family holiday.
"I've made some good contacts with LA Galaxy and I watched a player out there," he told BBC Radio Humberside.
"When their season finishes in January there might be a possibility of bringing him to England."
United have already brought the winger Garry Thompson to Glanford Park on a free transfer from Morecambe, but Adkins said he was unlikely to make many more additions to his small squad.
"We're probably going to run with a squad of about 20 players this season and we've more or less got that as we stand at this time," he added.
