Iron want Bennett despite record Posh bid

Bennett is valued at over £500,000 by Grimsby, however Scunthorpe have declared an interest in the player according to the Mariners chairman John Fenty.

Fenty told the Grimsby Telegraph that the bid lodged by Peterborough would beat the transfer fee received for a League Two player - which currently is the £330,000 Sheffield United paid Chesterfield for Jamie Ward.

"The second bid was a substantial increase on Peterborough's first offer and it is difficult for a club like ours to refuse such a substantial amount that would probably break records at this level,

"But we have other clubs like Scunthorpe and Blackpool showing an interest and at least two other high-profile sides at that level and above also keeping an eye on the situation".

Grimsby boss Mike Newell still wishes to keep the promising centre-back at Blundell Park for the forthcoming campaign.
