The 35-year-old striker was United's big summer signing back in June 2005, but he has struggled with injuries since joining on a free transfer from Sheffield United.

Once he did get back to fitness he couldn't get into the first team due to the superb form of prodigious strike duo Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh.

The forward has just ended a loan spell at relegated Conference side Tamworth, whom he joined for two months at the end of February.

Iron boss Brian Laws told BBC Radio Humberside: "I'm very disappointed, for the player that he was - and could be - we just didn't see anything that resembled that."
