Sparrow was sent off in the 42nd minute of last night's tie, after clashing with Latics player Darren Sheridan. Both received straight red cards for violent counduct.

However Iron manager Brian Laws has insisted that the club will be reviewing the incident on video and are planning an appeal.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I saw Sheridan throw a couple of punches and the assistant referee has suggested he saw Matthew throw one too.

"But I did not see that. All I saw was Matthew trying to shake off Sheridan. I had a distraught young player in the dressing room at the end of the game."

If the sending off is upheld then Sparrow will be suspended for three games, starting with the trip to Mansfield Town on August 26.
