Laws - I'd walk away if fans ask

Despite crashing to a 3-2 defeat at Cambridge, United's league placing was secured thanks to Cheltenham's late equaliser at Carlisle - relegating the Cumbrians in their centenary year.

Brian Laws, recalled by Scunthorpe 20 days after he was sacked by former chairman Chris Holland, admitted after the match he was still applying for other jobs.

He said: "I just don't know what the situation is at the moment. It's a great relief that we've managed to stay up, and what I do know is that we mustn't put Scunthorpe Football Club in this situation ever again.

"More has gone on in the last couple of months than would happen at many clubs in 20 years.

"I don't know whether I'll be here next season, I would walk away if that is what the fans want because they mean that much to me.

"I want to thank the supporters, since I have come back they have been amazing and they have shown real loyalty to me."

Cambridge's manager Claude Le Roy is also unsure where his future lies.

He said: "In the few weeks I have been at Cambridge I have had a strong feeling for the club and the supporters, and the players have responded brilliantly.

"But at the moment I have several other offers, some from international set-ups which I owe it to my family to take into consideration."
