Laws fails in striker search

With Torps and Quailey the only fit first team strikers at the club Laws has spent the week trying to bring in a forward from a higher division.

However, despite being hopeful of bringing the player in today, BL will have until noon tomorrow to bring in the mystery man.

The favourite to make the switch is former Iron and Hull forward John Eyre, and it would certainly add an interesting edge to tomorrow's derby.

Eyre left the Iron after we gained promotion to the second division, joining his hometown club City.

But in an effort to reduce their wage bill Eyre was offloaded to Oldham Athletic in the summer, where he has recently fallen from the first team picture as the Boundry park club chase a second division playoff spot.

"We are close, so close and we are trying to push things through in time for tomorrow," said Brian today.

"The player concerned is a striker from a club in a higher division.

"I would like to have him in in time for tomorrow but it is not a life or death situation and it won't affect the way we are going to play.

"I am prepared to wait until tomorrow's noon deadline to finalise things but if it doesn't happen tomorrow, then hopefully it will next week."

Laws is hoping that tomorrow's derby clash is remembered for all the right reasons, and is confident of getting a result.

"This is another massive game for both clubs and it is one we are really looking forward to," said Laws.

"Most of our best expressive football has come away from home in recent weeks," he admitted

"Playing against the better teams has also seemed to bring out the best in us.

"Obviously there is going to be a big crowd at Boothferry Park and it is going to be a cracking atmosphere.

"It is going to be a big occasion for our young side

"Some of our away support this season has been fantastic and I am sure it will be again tomorrow.

"All I would urge our fans is to steer clear of trouble and get behind the team. Let the players try and do the talking on the field.

"The important thing is that we go there and don't get beat, but we have players in our side who are capable of winning it, and that is what we will be trying to do."
