Laws linked to vacant Hull position

The Tigers parted company with Brian Little recently after a run of defeats threatened their playoff position, with youth team coach and former Scunthorpe United player Billy Russell taking charge until the end of the season.

City chairman Adam Pearson recognised that in order to get a half-decent manager to make the switch to the mudrats he would have to wait until the end of the season.

Speculation on Hull websites suggests that first division managers Ronnie Moore and Ray Graydon would be the fans choice, but neither of these seem likely to move.

Iron manager Brian Laws has been repeatedly muttered in connection with the post, and Pearson is known to be an admirer of his talents - especially after we completed the double over his side this season.

Comments Pearson has made to the media seem to sugegst Laws is in with a shout, thoguh it is highly unlikley he would leave United for them.

Kidderminster manager Jan Molby has also been linked, but lacks a proven success record in this division.

"We are making good progress in identifying the new manager for Hull City," said Pearson today.

"We have a shortlist of three managers who are all currently working in Division Two or Division Three and have a good track record in lower division management coupled with illustrious careers as footballers themselves.

"These three candidates will sit alongside Billy Russell in the shortlist for the vacant managers job.

"I will be seeking permission from the three respective clubs to talk to the three candidates over the next couple of weeks with a view to having the right person in place by the end of the season."

Laws has of course steered United to promotion once already, and looks set to secure at least a playoff position this season. His playing career peaked under Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest where he featured in a number of cup finals at Wembley.
