United have been in need of a back-up striker since Steve MacLean left the Iron at the end of last season and are now ready to raid Ibrox again in search of his replacement.

Laws is currently looking at the highly rated 'Gers striker Tom Brighton.

He is a product of Rangers' prestigious youth academy and has already been compared to former Rangers legend Mark Hateley.

Brighton is desperate to prove himself to Rangers boss Alex McLeish but first team opportunities have proved limited for the 20 year-old such is the competition for places with the Scottish giants.
