Laws points to poor preparation

A plethora of bad luck plagued the Iron's preparations this week, in the form of injuries, traffic jams and an international call-up.

"Nathan Stanton, Andy Butler and Lee Ridley all faced fitness tests on Saturday morning and we did not expect all of them to make it" explained Laws.

"None of them were able to take part in our final practice session for the game which we had in training on Friday.

"We worked with a totally different defence, maybe we should have stuck with that rather than changing things again at the last moment.

"On Saturday we had Ian Baraclough and Cleveland Taylor stuck in a traffic jam on their way to the ground.

"People don't realise how much nervous energy that takes up, sitting in a car, worrying whether you are going to make it on time.

"Then we had to ask Andy Keogh to play another 90 minutes after he had played for Eire U19's against England in Cork on Thursday night and then been on a plane flying back on Friday.

"I don't want to offer this as an excuse for the way we played on Saturday because we were poor - but it didn't help.

"We just werent able to prepare properly to face Chester."
