With first-choice centre-back Andy Butler ruled out for around five weeks with an ankle injury and Steve Torpey facing two months on the sidelines United's small squad is already finding itself severely tested.

Laws made enquiries before Friday's 1-0 win over Southend, but is waiting until after Bank Holiday Monday's trip to Hartlepool before deciding whether he needs to strengthen.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "The option is of going for a loan, otherwise when the window closes we've got seven days before we can go back for an emrgency loan.

"It's something I'm looking at, I've already put some irons in the fire just in case.

"I'm looking at a centre-half and a striker, we've got to be wary of the fact that we're thin on the ground in both areas."
