Laws wanted more from second chance

A deflected shot from Richard Kell earned a point for United after Martin Smith had given the Cobblers an early lead with a well-take free-kick, but United's second half pressure rarely threatened a winner.

Laws said: "I was disappointed in the second half that we didn't go on and win the game.

"We have had so many injuries lately that when Matthew Sparrow went off in the first half with a calf injury the players could have been excused for packing it in but they came out in the second half and showed tremendous spirit.

"They never had a shot in the second half and we had great opportunities to win the game and we should have won the game. We were better on the ball in the second half and that was the turning point.

"I thought Beagrie's crossing was different class, and that caused their defence no end of problems."

Northampton boss Colin Calderwood was taking the positives out of hiis first home match in charge.

He said: "The effort and endeavour was there again but we need to do better with the ball.

"We put our bodies in the way of numerous crosses and that was good to see and we got challenges in and around the box. We have got plenty of things to ponder on but we know as a group we must do better."
