Laws: We want to keep Hayes

Rumours on the Iron-Bru.net messageboard have suggested that the Glovers may be tempted to make a bid for Hayes, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

United have offered the former Norwich player an improved contract, but he has yet to accept or turn down the deal.

But Laws insists that the striker, who United would be entitled to a transfer fee for as he is under 24, has a big future at Glanford Park.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I'm not aware of any interest and there has been no official contact from Yeovil.

"Paul Hayes is a player who we very much want to keep."

In November Hayes was linked with a move away from North Lincolnshire, with several Championship and League One clubs watching him.

Brighton were keeping an eye on his performances, as were League One sides Bristol City, Blackpool, Doncaster and Huddersfield.

Speaking at the time, Laws said: "Paul loves it here. He enjoys working with the players around him.

"He has stressed already that he doesn't want to walk away at the end of the season."

Laws also responded to a persistent rumour from the Iron-Bru.net messageboard linking Mansfield winger Wayne Cordon with a move to North Lincolnshire.

Cordon has been told he has no future at the Stags by caretaker manager Carlton Palmer, and has been offered a pay-off to cancel his contract at the club.

He has rejected a drop to Conference side Carlisle United, and could be a long-term replacement for veteran Iron left-winger Peter Beagrie.

Laws said: "I don't know where the rumour came from, but I am always looking for good players and Wayne is a good player."
