McCombe agreed terms with the Sincil Bank club after being told he would not be offered a new deal in the summer and was free to find himself a new club.

But Iron manager Brian Laws refused to allow him to leave as he was needed to ease the club's injury crisis.

The Football Association ruled that McCombe had to be released and his last appearance in an Iron shirt was an action-packed six minutes as a half-time substitute last night.

In little over 300 seconds he picked up two yellow cards, followed by a red, which ensured he joins the Imps with a suspension in tow.
