Mendieta and Cruyff agree to Calvo tribute

The tribute dinner on April 6 will now be held in a marquee at Glanford Park, as it means 370 people can be accomodated rather than 300 at the Baths Hall.

Topping the bill will be comedian Gary Styner, along with The Gas Band - playing covers from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Organiser Richard Mason told Iron-Bru.net: "It is a shame that it's not possible to accomodate everybody who wants to go.

"Fortunately many see the dinner as a chance to thank Alex for his achievements and to raise as much money for him as possible."

The nature of the sides taking to the Glanford Park pitch for the benefit match on May 3 is also looking clearer, with all the 1999 Wembley winners confirming their availability.

They will play against an invitation XI, with a number of stars set to confirm their availability over the coming weeks.

Three that have done are Gaizka Mendieta, Jordi Cruyff - son of Dutch legend Johan Cruyff, and Michael Dawson - younger brother of Andy Dawson, who will line up for the '99 team.

Wales manager Mark Hughes is also believed to be able to play.

The clubs of all players who have indicated their availability to play will be approached this week for official permission to play.
