Mirfin calls for atmosphere

He hopes fans can recreate the atmopshere which saw the Iron sneak into the playoffs via a last minute Cliff Byrne header against Tranmere in 2009.

“I can remember the atmosphere that day was unbelievable and it was something I’ll never forget when Cliffy scored", he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

“Hopefully we can recreate something like that again.

“To do this would probably top it, to be honest, for the season we’ve had and it’s definitely about time I got a goal,” Mirfin continued.

The former Huddersfield man is eager to put a disappointing campaign behind him, in which he has been largely out of favour since Brian Laws took over.

“It’s been massively disappointing for me.

“I’ve come in this season and not quite reached those heights when I thought I would definitely have kicked on.

“I’ve probably been renowned for being consistently good – not brilliant but not average.

“This season I’ve maybe dropped into that average bracket, which is definitely where I don’t want to be.

“It’s all or nothing on Saturday and we’ve got to make sure we turn up and it’s the Scunthorpe the home fans were used to watching a couple of years ago.”
