With the final day of normal fixtures, as well as the end of season playoffs, still to play over 14 million people have gone through the turnstiles at football league grounds nationwide.

14.4 million have attended games this season. in comparison with a total figure for last season of 13.5 million.

"Considering the Football League drew in less than 11 million in the first season after the Premier League breakaway, this season's figures are remarkable," said Football League Chief Executive David Burns.

"Club's have worked hard to strengthen links with their local communities and this hard work has paid off.

"The Nationwide League attendance figures, coupled with the highest average attendances in the Worthington Cup for 20 years and a 20 per cent increase in gates at LDV Vans Trophy games proves the incredible popularity of our competitions."
