Murphy plays 45 minutes for Ireland

Murphy was replaced by Kieran Westwood of Coventry City at half-time, as the Republic's coach Giovanni Trapattoni gave as many players a runout as possible.

Caleb Folan opened the scoring for Ireland after 24 minutes, with the former Iron forward Andy Keogh making it two just after the hour mark.

Murphy will return to England to represent the Iron against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, before returning to Ireland to act as backup for Shay Given and Dean Kiely for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Cyprus.
